We have found drum circles to be a wonderfully effective program for our students in the Special Needs community. One of our students put it best… “the drum always speaks back to me whatever I say.”
We continue to marvel at the level of sustained engagement we have witnessed in these workshops as it is not unusual for students to play drums for 10-20 minutes without speaking or interruption.
Students will play traditional drums and hand held percussion instruments including djembe, doun doun, shekere, conga, cajon, clave, agogo bell, guira as well as 5 gallon buckets. These drum circle sessions provide an immediately engaging focal point for group collaboration, critical listening, call & response, as well as physical and emotional expression. Drumming can provide the opportunity to open positive channels for diffusing and safely expressing pent-up energy, aid in self-regulation and improve mood and overall emotional well-being. Live performance drum circles are uplifting and impactful for the entire community.

This is a push-in program where students will directly experience the fundamentals of music such as pulse, tempo, rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, and dynamics through exciting and collaborative musical games and exercises.
This program will consistently incorporate physical movement (modifications smoothly made for students in wheelchairs and other physical challenges), vocal call & response, body percussion, as well as vocal percussion to build and deepen your students’ working knowledge and EXPERIENCE of Music.
Students learn the basics of singing and will explore a wide range of musical styles as they are expertly guided through proper techniques for breathing, tone production, and vocalization.
Students will build and rehearse an exciting repertoire of pieces which can be shared in culminating LIVE PERFORMANCE EVENTS that will showcase the ability of your students to collaborate in joyful creative expression.
